I miss paper March Madness brackets. Remember when teachers used to print big stacks of them and you would have one in your binder? You would compare them all throughout the first two days of the tournament. Everything has went digital and truthfully, I think I’ve checked my results 3 times since the start of the tournament. There was something special about marking out your losses and highlighting your wins.
Speaking of sports, Scott County’s own Trace Willhoite got called up to the St. Lucie Mets (New York Mets) minor league affiliate. The minor league system is an absolute grind, I hope to see him continue to develop and move up!
Running sucks. But I like running? Taking any time off makes it so difficult to get back into a routine.
Daredevil: Born Again has been a great series so far. With the recent cameo of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, I decided to go back and watch his show while waiting for the next episode of Born Again. The Punisher is so good and they really nailed that casting with Bernthal.
Every day I feel like I’m becoming more like the older folks I used to make fun of. Nothing makes me feel that way more than watching cartoons with my children. I love going back on Disney and watching movies and shows that were available when I was a kid. Recently I found “Recess” on Disney+. What a treat! Today’s cartoons just don’t have the same magic.
The hardest part of the school year for a teacher is the time between the last snow day and the start of Spring Break.
Being an educator on Social Media is incredibly hard. You have to keep your mouth shut about everything because the consequences are so great if you don’t. We never get to defend ourselves.
Technology seems to have peaked; not talking about AI, but talking about the lack of innovation with devices. MacBooks, iPad’s, Laptops, Cellphones, Headphones, and Smart Home devices have not seen any groundbreaking changes recently. But honestly, how much better can they get?
How can you parent two children the exact same way and they turn out so differently? LOL. We are in trouble over here in the Smith house.
You remember the original Pizza Hut? You know the red and white checkered table cloths and those thick red cups? That buffet hit different after a YMCA basketball game back in ‘97.
Back Yard Baseball ‘97 was just officially released on all mobile devices. It’s $4.99, no internet connection required, no micro-transactions and no pay to play. For a guy who is a sucker for nostalgia, you may find me drinking a pacific cooler Capri Sun while trying to nuke a ball to the left field mini pool at Eckman Acres.
Opening day was Thursday, March 27th! Elly De La Cruz finished Spring Training with a .409/.519/.773 slash line. 4 Home Runs, 12 RBI’s, and a 1.292 OPS. 8-War season incoming? Is it possible the Reds have a potential MVP candidate this year?
It feels like the Smith family has attended a minimum of 1 birthday party per weekend since the end of January. This is getting out of hand. My kids need a friendship quota.
My four year old daughter told my wife to “chill out” the other day. For some reason Lindsey’s response to her was totally different than if I had said it.
I found my iPod classic the other day and was instantly transported to a Tuesday morning in my Dodge Stratus on my way to Madison Central. I love the convenience of Spotify and Apple Music. But there is something different about illegally downloading your music, searching for the album artwork, and uploading that to your iPod where you will have it forever. Let’s raise our glasses and have a toast to the good ol’ days. We had some good times Lime wire.
Torpedo Bats. Boy those came out of nowhere. I don’t hate them. But I do wonder how much of an impact they are actually having.
Melo being elected into the Basketball Hall of Fame is cool! I know he wasn’t the ultimate “winner”— but that guy could sure score the basketball.
Anyway, life just keeps moving, doesn’t it? You never realize that it may be the last time you play Backyard Baseball on the family HP in the kitchen. It could be the last time you print a bracket before everything goes digital. Maybe it’s the last time your kiddos sneak into your room to sleep in the middle of the night. Maybe you walk into Pizza Hut to find they’ve stopped the buffet and changed their décor. Your iPod becomes obsolete, you no longer purchase CD’s… I’m just trying to be present and hold onto these little moments as they come.
What’s something you’ve thought about recently?
