Credit for the idea of this post goes to Lance McAlister host of 700 WLW radio show and Cincinnati Sports writer. For as long as I have followed him on social media, he has randomly posted an edition of his random thoughts on a variety of different topics. I thought it would be fun to start the year off with my own.
2024 was a year of growth for me. I spent much of my downtime reading and trying to fill my bucket with different types of entertainment. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow and be more consistent with doing things I love.
Why can’t we protect our children from everything? It’s exhausting looking around and seeing so many dangers that I have no control over.
The process is more important than the final product.
For years all I ever wanted to do was watch sports. I believe I invested the fewest amount of minutes watching basketball or football than ever before in 2024. Is this because the product isn’t as enjoyable, or my taste for entertainment and content consumption has changed?
There’s no right way to grieve. 2024 taught me this. I’ve experienced grief in a multitude of ways since losing my mom. When I see people experience the loss of a loved one, I try to remind them to feel it all. Every emotion.
Sometimes you have to laugh so you don’t cry.
Every action has a consequence, whether it’s a good one or a bad one.
People might love me deeply, but God loves me perfectly.
The best do the basics exceptionally well. I’ve always wondered how people become so great at things, as if there was some trick they knew that I wasn’t aware of. Turns out, it’s how consistent they are at becoming great doing the most basic of practices. They do not get bored with the mundane. Professional athletes who are considered the greatest of all time regularly find themselves being infatuated with the process of getting better. Look at Steph’s pregame routine or clips of him practicing. The greats never grow tired of doing the basics.
The Fast & Furious franchise is so cheesy, but I love every bit of it. I miss when movies were created purely for our enjoyment.
What are your top 3 core values? I’ve been in an Aspiring Leader co-hort that has challenged us with coming up with our own definition of leadership through examining our core values. I think, for now, mine are: Faith, Family, and Excellence.
Being present is better than being perfect.
The Los Angeles Lakers are really bad. LeBron is looking older than ever and I am sad that we will be seeing a game without him, Steph, and KD in the near future.
I have to figure out how to get my wife to stop organizing our junk drawer. I’m not sure she understands the concept.
What are you all going to do without TikTok?
We are 1 month out from pitchers and catchers reporting for camp. I miss baseball.
I love the Cincinnati Reds hire of Terry Francona. I just wish they would have opened their wallet and made a few additional moves in free agency.
I would rather watch a Mark Pope loss than a John Calipari win.
Sam’s > Costco
The Bengals really wasted an all time year from their two biggest stars.
I find myself going back to older music instead of listening to new releases.
Elly De La Cruz
That’s all for now.
Talk to you soon!
